Obituary of Susan E Swichtenberg

Susan "Sue" Swichtenberg, 75, of Largo, FL passed away March 23, 2024 after a long struggle with several health issues. Sue was born October 7, 1948 in Barrington, Illinois to William and June Kolkmeyer. She attended school in Barrington as well. After Willie passed away in 1966, June, Sue, and older brother John traveled the country and then returned to Barrington. Shortly thereafter, Sue met Roger at the local bowling alley. Sue and Roger married in March 1969 after just a few months of dating. Sue was immediately embraced by the large Swichtenberg family! Sue & Roger welcomed their daughter, Jodi in January 1972 and their son, Jason in May 1975. Less than a year later, the Swichtenberg family packed up and moved to Florida for warmer weather. Jodi & Jason were Sue's whole world. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for them and she was proud of her title of "Domestic Engineer" for years. She eventually started working part time at Dr. Jurado's office in Largo, then later full-time at Suncoast Internal Medicine Consultants, also in Largo, for 18 years, earning her beloved title of "Switchboard Sue," & forming strong lifelong friendships. After SIMC, she worked with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office for 7 years before retiring. She absolutely loved her job and her coworkers. Sue was notorious for raising alot of money for the Sheriff’s Office Cadets, earning her top recognition for the "dine out day" fundraiser every year she worked there! Mom loved her crafts and was an expert cross-stitcher. She and a group of friends stitched all year, then hosted an annual holiday craft boutique. Later, she fell in love with quilting and continued to quilt even in the assisted living facility. Sue's favorite role of her lifetime was Grandma. Jake, Jaye, and Rylie were born to Jodi and her husband John here in Florida. Sage and Jordan were born to Jason and his wife Ariadne in Georgia. We thought Sue was a great Mom but holy cow, being Gigi & Grammy Sue was everything! Roger, Sue's best friend, and husband of 43 years passed away twelve years ago. She struggled with this loss and it took a toll on her health and happiness. Sue touched so many lives and her loss will be felt for a long time. But she is now at peace, cruising away with Roger. Sue is preceded in death by her Husband Roger, parents, William Kolkmeyer and June Mitchell, and her stepfather Allen Reish. Sue is survived by her daughter Jodi Rice (John), son Jason (Ariadne), brother John Kolkmyeyer (Mimi), and grandchildren Jake, Jaye, Rylie, Sage, and Jordan. Sue's celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 3pm (arrive at 2:30p) at Reese Funeral Home,6767 Seminole Boulevard, Seminole, FL 33772. Flowers are accepted for the service or memorial donations may be made to the Pinellas County Youth Athletic League, www.pcsoweb.com/dineoutday.
